What is hypermiling and how does it save gas?
I recently read an online article about a guy who gets 100 miles per gallon from his 1985 Honda Accord and wanted to know how he did it. What are the ways to change my driving habits to get the best possible fuel economy? Is hypermiling a hoax?

A combination of driving techniquest known as hypermiling have been proven to improve fuel efficiency. It is not a hoax, although your results may vary depending on your commitment to saving fuel.

Driving the speed limit is one way to save a lot of gas. By leaving a distance between yourself and the car ahead of you will save you from using your brakes as much, a real gas saver. Coasting up to a red light rather than approaching it full-speed serves the same purpose, less stopping and starting.

Although you have to drive pretty radically to get 100 miles per gallon, such as not braking when cornering and driving so slowly you hold up traffic, you can still add 20-30 percent to your fuel efficiency by just doing the minimum.
