What qualifies as a "simple machine?"
I have a bet with a classmate that the simplest apparatus which one could call a machine involves more than one part. She holds that something as simple as a lever or a wheel can be considered a machine. Who is right?

A simple machine is a machine that typically consists of a single component and requires an outside force in order to perform a task. Simple machines come in six categories: lever, wheel, pulley, inclined plane, wedge, and screw.
